The Magic of the Delta

Botswana has built its reputation on the extraordinary ecosystem of Okavango Delta, the second largest inland delta in the world. These are thousands of islets that form around termite mounds and clumps of vegetation which retain alluvial deposits, giving the delta a different face each year. The delta is a true labyrinth of waterways lined by hundreds of papyrus reeds, among which one discovers a myriad of mammals and birds. But Botswana also has the salt pans of Makgadikgadi and the much more arid expanses of the central reserve of Kalahari, as if the delta was swallowed up in the bowels of the earth.
