A gourmet archipelago

Nestled in the heart of the Gulf of Guinea, the volcanic islands of Sao Tome and Principe will delight nature and authenticity lovers. This former Portuguese colony, nicknamed « Chocolate Island » its countless cocoa plantations, offers a rich array of activities: jungle expeditions to superb waterfalls, climbing the Pico de São Tomé dominating the two islands, boat trips along the wild coastlines, diving in the warm, clear waters, relaxing on one of the many golden sandy beaches, and observing the turtles, whales, and hundreds of species of birds populating the archipelago. The destination's rich biodiversity is enhanced by the kindness of the São Toméans, who give a warm welcome to the still-limited number of visitors. Their culture can be discovered by wandering through the stalls of the capital's market, at the heart of the cocoa and coffee plantations, in front of the colonial architecture of the towns, in the cuisine blending African and Portuguese influences, or during a tchiloli, a traditional theatre performance.
