    POLE ATTRACTION

    Discover the polar regions with Quark Expeditions ships. Lars Wikander and Mike McDowell, the co-founders of Quark Expeditions, took the first group of commercial travellers to the North Pole in 1991. This inaugural and ground-breaking expedition (the very first tourist transit of the Northeast Passage) placed Quark Expeditions at the forefront of polar exploration. Quark has spent over 30 years taking travellers on polar expeditions to remote regions of the Arctic and of Antarctica where no-one else had ever set foot. Polar expeditions have evolved since the first voyage in 1991 aboard the nuclear-powered icebreaker Sovetskiy Soyuz, and new vessels as well as new routes comply with an increasingly strict environmental charter.
