An unspoilt archipelago

Comprising around fifty islands, only a handful of which are inhabited, the British Virgin Islands archipelago offers a Caribbean experience that is as wild as it is heavenly. Tortola, the main island, unfolds a landscape of mountains and lush tropical rainforest at its heart, and reveals superb coconut-fringed beaches along its shores. The capital, Road Town, is just a few kilometres from the sublime beaches of Cane Garden Bay and Apple Bay. After a stroll through the picturesque streets lined with brightly coloured houses, what could be better than a swim in the warm Caribbean waters? Grab a mask and explore the coral seabeds to encounter a multicoloured marine life. Or board a yacht and set sail for Virgin Gorda, the neighbouring island with beaches dotted with granite boulders – the Baths – which create a postcard-perfect setting. In contrast, the island of Jost Van Dyke is quieter and once again promises idyllic beaches lapped by crystal-clear waters and exceptional seabed life. Leave the coast behind to delve into the lush vegetation and discover sumptuous panoramas from the hilltops. Further offshore lies Anegada, a particularly flat coral island encircled by a reef sheltering formidable diving spots. Welcome to the Virgin Islands, the legendary lair of the pirate Blackbeard!
