Japamala

Diving in Tioman

Nestling on a hillside by the sea are the 13 units of the small Japamala resort, built from reclaimed teak wood and blending rusticity with modern comfort. The chalets and villas, named «sarangs» (which means «nest» in Malay), blend perfectly into the natural landscape and are scattered across the heart of a verdant jungle. To preserve the environment, the architects cleverly bypassed trees and rocks, meaning the sarangs are all different and each possess their own unique charm. Japamala features a lovely white sand beach and an intimate spa to wash away any unwanted stress. The chef serves delicious Asian and Malay recipes at the Tamarind restaurant, whilst Italian cuisine takes centre stage at the Il Tempio restaurant for guests in search of more Western flavours. Japamala is experienced as a retreat (no under-16s) to recharge your batteries away from the city, amidst lush jungle and teeming marine life...
