    Barefoot luxury

    North Island is a paradise island in the Seychelles, a true ecological sanctuary blending sublime villas custom-built by local artisans using the island's natural materials. It is a haven of peace, a small Noah's Ark for a number of plant and animal species that have been reintroduced and protected with the utmost care. North Island is a wonderfully protected tropical refuge housing an exceptional lodge that offers absolute «barefoot luxury». Only 11 villas have been built across the entire island to create a sensory experience in an environment of rare elegance. Each 450 m² villa has been custom-designed by local artisans using natural materials found on the island, with a commitment to preserving nature. A villa consists of a bedroom, a dressing room, a lounge, a dining room, a bathroom, a private pool, and a covered terrace shelter facing a deserted beach bordered by palm trees and granite rocks, and the mythical turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean.     North Island is involved in a vast native species rehabilitation project that began with the eradication of rats. Rare tree species (takamakas), giant tortoises and endangered birds (white-eyes) have thus been reintroduced. Children from Mahé come here to take ecology classes to raise their awareness of their ecosystem.
