    Tucked away in an old, small farming village in the Alentejo, the São Lourenço do Barrocal estate has belonged to the same family for over 200 years. The old pastoral buildings have been brought back to life through a careful renovation, creating a hotel property of understated luxury and authentic charm. Surrounded by vineyards, holm oaks and olive trees, São Lourenço do Barrocal offers the feeling of being at home amidst the bucolic landscapes of this region in southern Portugal. Nestled within the farm buildings, 40 rooms and cottages reveal an elegant rural style featuring traditional materials, vintage Portuguese pieces and more contemporary furnishings. Their architecture has not been altered in order to preserve the original charm of the buildings and keep the soul of the estate alive. From your room, suite or cottage, you can admire the castle of Monsaraz, the surrounding countryside or even the neighbouring villages… Tranquillity can also be savoured by the outdoor pool and at the Spa Barrocal, where natural relaxing treatments are provided. At the heart of the restaurant, the cuisine is crafted around fresh, local ingredients, partly harvested from the hotel's organic kitchen garden: a «farm-to-table» menu that enhances the traditional flavours of the Alentejo. And for wine lovers, the former olive oil mill now houses a bar where you can taste the estate's wines.

    ETHICS

    Hotel São Lourenço do Barrocal was created through the renovation of 7 farm buildings on a deserted 780-hectare agricultural estate. In addition to materials salvaged on-site (tiles, terracotta, stone, etc.), thousands of locally produced handmade bricks were used to ensure the hotel blends seamlessly into the landscape. The property is also equipped with solar panels, is committed to reducing waste, offers «farm-to-table» gastronomy and has its own 10,000 m² organic vegetable garden.
