Vicarello Castle

An exclusive castle in rural Tuscany

Halfway between Rome and Florence, Castello di Vicarello is an Italian castle overlooking the wild and little-known Maremma countryside from its natural promontory. 25 years ago, the Baccheschi Berti family began restoring the 900-year-old castle and worked to convert the surrounding land into lush vineyards. Now surrounded by 40 hectares of vines and arable land, the property offers the luxury of seclusion while providing its guests with comfort and fine dining. Tastefully restored, the castle's 9 suites feature personalised decor blending original stone walls, antique and contemporary furniture, with a slight oriental inspiration inherited from the owners' travels in Indonesia. The estate has a passion for organically grown wine and the regional cuisine that makes up the menu at the panoramic La Terrazza restaurant. Castello di Vicarello cultivates its own vegetable garden and uses some of the ingredients in its range of therapeutic treatments provided in the rooms or gardens. To complete the wellness experience, the castle houses two swimming pools, one with a breathtaking view of the valley and the other nestled in the middle of an olive grove.

This unique atmosphere, in one of Italy's most tourist-frequented regions, is enhanced by the estate's rich winemaking heritage. The mild climate, the fertility of the land and the winemaker's passion can be tasted in every bottle.

ETHICS

Castello di Vicarello cultivates over 50 varieties of vegetables and around thirty aromatic herbs in its organic kitchen garden. From the very beginning, the owners have instilled a sustainable way of life in the castle, as close as possible to Tuscan traditions, with organic farming and a «farm-to-table» concept for the majority of their produce. The estate has also forged partnerships with local organic farmers.
