Susafa

A National Geographic lodge in the Sicilian countryside

Perched on a hill in central Sicily, overlooking the wheat fields, Susafa is a 19th-century masseria expertly run by the Saeli-Rizzuto family for five generations. This historic farmhouse now welcomes visitors seeking serenity, authenticity and a desire to discover the true taste of the Sicilian terroir. The estate is home to intimate spaces conducive to peace and relaxation, a terracotta-tiled swimming pool nestled in the scrubland, 18 rooms surrounded by gardens, a rustic bar and a gourmet restaurant set in the old farmhouse granary. The latter serves typical regional cuisine, based on local, seasonal produce, and offers an enticing wine list. The rooms still bear architectural traces of the rooms' former agricultural function (the baker's or monk's apartment, the stable, the cowshed, etc.) while offering elegant comfort and contemporary amenities. Stepping through the doors of Susafa is almost like entering another dimension in time...

ETHICS

Susafa is a unique place, far from modern industrialisation, where respect for the environment governs every aspect of the estate's management. Vegetables have always been grown locally and organically; the pasta, bread and cheese are handmade on the estate. Single-use plastic has never had a place behind these stone walls. The farm ensures the responsible use of water resources and uses ecological cleaning products. The sustainable management of the estate is a centuries-old commitment that is essential to preserving its superb environment.
