Poseidonion Grand Hotel

Poseidonion, the fruit of a visionary

The Poseidonion Grand Hotel is a splendid early 20th-century hotel enjoying breathtaking views of the port of Dapia on the picturesque island of Spetses. Just two and a half hours from Athens, it is a most tranquil "grand style" retreat on an island that has preserved its identity and authenticity. The Poseidonion was erected in 1914 by a visionary from Spetses, Sotirios Anargyros, who made his fortune in the US tobacco industry. Designed in the spirit of the Carlton in Cannes and the Negresco in Nice, the Poseidonion was considered a palace by the Athenian elite, and remains today a true symbol of professional success. Following a five-year renovation, the Grand Hotel reopened its doors in 2009 in a sleek, elegant contemporary style. There are 52 rooms and suites (including the famous Royal Suite and the Cupola) welcoming connoisseurs from around the world in a palette of whites and beiges beneath breathtaking ceiling heights in the historical wing. To complete the excellence of the place, you will fall under the spell of the chef's tasty cuisine at the Library Brasserie restaurant.

THE EXTRAORDINARY

The hotel's architecture is simply sublime, and its 2009 restoration is a model of success, as it respects the character of the old while breathing into it a touch of sleek modernity that will never date. As for the island's atmosphere, it is a delight, with its taverns, small cafes, alleyways, horse-drawn carriages and more than welcoming locals.

ETHICS

The hotel is owned by a Greek who has respected the philosophy of its creator by renovating it with high-quality materials and creating numerous local jobs. He organises community-building and income-generating events for the island such as a mini marathon, a biathlon and a classic boat race. The hotel is committed to sustainable development and manages an organic vegetable garden to balance its menu.
