Kinsterna Hotel

A cradle of traditions & heritage

To the south-west of the fortified town of Monemvasia, in the southern Peloponnese, lies a tastefully restored country residence. The Kinsterna Hotel houses 50 accommodations: 28 rooms located within the old Byzantine manor house itself, 20 residences in adjacent units and 2 villas with swimming pools. Throughout, the decoration blends architectural elements inherited from the past with contemporary amenities. Across its 10 hectares of fertile land, as was done in the past and to the great delight of its guests, the hotel produces wine, olive oil, Greek eau-de-vie and traditional bread. At the gourmet Sterna restaurant, you can sample fine, imaginative Mediterranean cuisine. At lunchtime, sit down at the Mouries to gaze out at the sea while savouring fresh, local dishes, or, in the warm season, treat yourself to an authentic break nestled in the greenery of the Taverna Linos. Kinsterna is also the pleasure of swimming in spring water thanks to the property's two pools. Adults will also appreciate the spa facilities, which include a hammam, jacuzzi and treatment rooms with Ottoman scents. At any time of day, the peaceful Kinsterna estate, planted with cypresses and eucalyptus trees, invites you to take a stroll while enjoying superb views of the Aegean Sea and the medieval rock of Monemvasia.

THE EXTRAORDINARY

Kinsterna is an estate rich in history. Just a few steps from the hotel, the remains of a fortress dating back to 250 BC have been uncovered. Although no written records have yet been discovered to determine the exact origins of the residence, experts have been able to date the building's lintels to the 17thth and the 18thth century. The U-shaped layout of the estate and its elevated position on a hill suggest that Kinsterna had a defensive role in medieval times. In 2006, a team of enthusiasts set about restoring the residence, while preserving its historical heritage and traditions.
