    In the early 1980s, Francis Ford Coppola visited Belize, and immediately fell in love with an abandoned lodge, Blancaneaux Lodge, which he bought and transformed over more than a decade into a family retreat, before opening his tropical paradise to the public in 1993. Blancaneaux Lodge is a luxury retreat of 20 cabanas and villas where waterfalls cascade into turquoise natural pools in the heart of the Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve jungle. Its secluded mountain setting allows guests to explore the natural wonders of the reserve on foot, by bicycle or on horseback, before returning to their thatched-roof lodge, showcasing the craftsmanship of indigenous tribes.
