In the bathrooms, the stone-crafted bathtubs are generously proportioned, reminiscent of iconic onsens. Indeed, some of the hotel's suites boast their own traditional onsen fed by a natural spring.     THE EXTRAORDINARY

    The Mitsui offers an oasis of relaxation thanks to its own thermal spring, drawn from 1,000 metres beneath the hotel, which is unique in central Kyoto. You will enjoy a slightly modernised traditional onsen experience, with bathing in swimsuits in mixed-gender pools. Do not leave the Spa at The Mitsui without trying a traditional Japanese massage based on «Anma» principles, a combination of stretches, pressure and energetic sweeping movements. Or opt for innovative treatments focused on balancing Yin and Yang, or the five elements: metal, wood, water, fire and earth.

    ETHICS

    Set within a centuries-old estate, the hotel has endeavoured to retain certain original features to preserve the heritage: stone lanterns, traditional landscaping, and the restored Kaijimiya gate at the entrance to the Mitsui, which is registered as a national cultural asset. The private Shiki-no-ma function room perpetuates traditional architecture with its delicate timber framing. The hotel also supports local producers and the «farm-to-table» concept. The hotel's delicious carrot biscuits are made using carrots from a local farm that uses the hotel's coffee grounds as natural fertilizer.
