Misool

Misool, pristine marine reserve

Heaven on Earth is right here... in West Papua, on the private island of Misool in the heart of the remote Raja Ampat archipelago. After more than two years of work undertaken by a couple of passionate diving enthusiasts, committed to respecting nature and wildlife, Misool has become a renowned eco-resort within the diving community. With its 19 cottages spread between stilts and the beach, Misool was built in harmony with nature using driftwood, recycled wood and coconut fibre. The staff members come from neighbouring fishing villages and the ecolodge operates entirely off-grid. Today, it spans nearly 1,220 km² of protected marine reserve featuring one of the world's finest coral reefs, which is home to varied wildlife and prolific biodiversity: turtles, manta rays, sharks, dolphins and a multitude of fish. The cuisine is a highlight of the lodge, as the chef uses only fresh produce from responsible farming; you will therefore find no beef, prawns or grapes, but succulent deep-sea fish caught on the line and local exotic fruits.
