    Bwindi Lodge reopens its doors in June 2020

    Bwindi Lodge is a rustic and charming lodge located in the lively village of Buhoma, at one of the main entrances to the Bwindi Forest. Treks from Buhoma are generally less physically demanding than those from Nkuringo. The lodge consists of 11 attractive bandas decorated in a tropical jungle-inspired style while offering all the comforts of a mountain lodge. The bandas are set overlooking the river and face the Bwindi Forest. A vibrant explosion of plant species competing in shades of green therefore serves as the panorama for this charming lodge, providing a natural setting for hundreds of bird species and several primate species, including the famous mountain gorillas. The lodge features a spa and sauna to offer genuine relaxation sessions after several hours of walking.

    THE EXTRAORDINARY

    Gorilla tracking (for ages 15 and over) is the absolute must-do at Bwindi Lodge. Permits must be booked and paid for in advance. Only a single group of a maximum of 8 people is permitted to visit a gorilla "family", in order to protect their privacy and limit the risk of transmitting diseases from humans to the non-immune primates.

    ETHICS

    Volcanoes Safaris Partnership Trust has opened Bwindi Bar, the local Harry's Bar, to train underprivileged youths in hospitality. You can order a "Gorillini" cocktail, a must-have after a strenuous and unforgettable gorilla tracking trek in the impenetrable forest. Another project dating back to 2013 is the creation of a cooperative to produce high-altitude tea, which is yielding very promising results.
