    Kaya Mawa, the beach in the heart of Africa

    Kaya Mawa is a dream lodge, built in the south-west of Likoma Island on Lake Malawi. Crystal-clear waters, lush mango trees, granite rocks, deserted beaches, impressive baobabs, a feeling of being at the edge of the world in the very heart of Africa. And to discover this paradise, 12 refined luxury cottages that blend into an untouched landscape. Likoma and its neighbour Chizumulu belong to Malawi, although they lie within Mozambican territorial waters, remnants of an Anglican colonial past. The lodge consists of 12 superb stone and teak cottages with thatched roofs, nestled among imposing granite boulders and facing the transparent waters of Lake Malawi. The rooms seem to merge with the rock and have been tastefully decorated using local materials, creating a deeply enveloping ethnic atmosphere. Families can choose one of the 3 villas at their disposal to make it their own little piece of paradise. Water sports are varied and even include scuba diving. Safari activities are also offered in partnership with the Manda Wilderness Reserve.

    For all romantic lovers, Kaya Mawa offers a delightful cottage, secluded on a tiny island that can be reached via a wooden boardwalk. It is the ideal place for a marriage proposal or a honeymoon. Lake Malawi remains a destination that is still relatively unknown and truly authentic and wild.

    ETHICS

    Kaya Mawa was built entirely by hand by the inhabitants of the surrounding villages. Hot water is obtained by burning wood bought from the villages of Mozambique. The lodge is involved in a vast reforestation programme for indigenous and fruit trees, and combats illegal fishing in the lake.
