Virunga Lodge

Between lakes and volcanoes

Perched on a hill at an altitude of 2,200m, Virunga Lodge has built its reputation on its involvement in the local community and its extraordinary panoramas, with lakes Bulera and Ruhondo to the east and the Virunga volcanoes and the Musanze valley to the west. Recently renovated, the 10 bandas offer an ideal and authentic base for admiring the beauty of the volcanic landscapes and setting off in search of the famous mountain gorillas. The décor is typically Rwandan, creating a peaceful atmosphere with a lovely fireplace and a terrace with sweeping views. After an emotional day in the heart of the jungle to meet the gorillas or after a guided walking tour, the lodge offers spa treatments to relax muscles and recharge.

ETHICS

The Virunga Ecolodge was built with respect for the environment and is powered by solar energy with solar panels to minimise its environmental impact. The Volcanoes Safaris group supports numerous projects in Rwanda and Uganda through cultural and ecological projects such as providing water tanks to the local community or a sheep to each of the 140 families in the Sunzu community.
