Sikelia

The hidden jewel of Pantelleria

Between the intense blue of the Mediterranean Sea and the spellbinding sunsets of the wild island of Pantelleria stands Sikelia. Comprising just 20 suites, each with its own identity, the hotel showcases the cultural heritage of this Sicilian island while offering luxury and comfort. Easily accessible from both Sicily and major Italian cities, Pantelleria remains an authentic, off-the-beaten-path destination. From one woman's passion for this hidden gem, the Sikelia hotel was born. Former dammuso (typical volcanic stone dwelling), the property has been renovated while retaining its original style, namely a winding white fortress with vaulted structures and undeniable charm. Inside the suites, rich fabrics, metal, concrete and glass adorn the interiors alongside artistic works by Gennaro Avallone. It is also hard not to fall under the spell of the simple yet bold flavours of the Themà Restaurant, where the Chef brings an African twist to traditional Sicilian recipes. With its UNESCO-recognised winemaking practices, hiking trails, unspoiled coves and crystal-clear sea, Pantelleria offers a retreat in communion with nature in this little corner of Sicily.

ETHICS

In order to blend in as best as possible with the typical landscape of Pantelleria, the former dammuso which now houses the Sikelia hotel has been renovated with respect for its traditional architecture and the surrounding vegetation. As for the restaurant menu, it is mostly created using fresh, local produce. For its wine list, the hotel works with the Coste Ghirlanda vineyard where grapes are harvested by hand according to a traditional method classified as UNESCO heritage.
