    A secret retreat

    The owners, a Brazilian couple who are passionate about the region and deeply committed to conservation, have lovingly restored a coffee fazenda dating back to 1715, and are gradually making outbuildings available to rent, scattered across the 4,000 hectares of this dream fazenda in Minas Gerais. Just a 3½-hour drive from Rio, you can enjoy a unique immersive experience in the heart of lush, bountiful nature, criss-crossed by footpaths, waterfalls, rivers and natural pools, and home to a multitude of birds and animals, such as toucans, armadillos and primates. The eight suites in the main lodge exude old-world charm with their stained-glass windows, antique wooden furniture and bathrooms featuring copper taps. The other houses are also decorated in a rustic-chic style, without any ostentation. There’s no large swimming pool, just an outdoor hot tub and a spa housed in a huge, very zen-like wooden barn – nature being generous enough with its own natural bathing spots. As for the cuisine, it’s fresh, organic 100% – a feast of fruit and vegetables showcased in exceptional traditional recipes! A minimum stay of four nights is recommended to make the most of this extraordinary place.

    Thanks to the efforts of the hotel owners since the 1980s, the forest of the Ibitipoca Reserve has started to regenerate and grow. The hotel continues to run an environmental programme of reforestation and the reintroduction of plant and animal species to continue preserving the natural and cultural heritage of the region with the local community.
