    Living to the rhythm of Newfoundland

    Arriving at the Fogo Island Inn is almost like getting the feeling of arriving in an inaccessible and timeless place. The hotel was designed by Newfoundland architect Todd Saunders to be a striking ship-shaped hotel with futuristic white architecture, inspired by old fishing shacks. The 29 suites were designed with local and sustainable furniture and materials such as spruce wood from the Fogo forests. Each suite is equipped with solar panels, a wood-burning stove and large picture windows offering breath-taking views of the ocean and the starry sky. The hotel also houses a 37-seat cinema, a lovely library, a rooftop spa with hot tubs and a sauna, as well as a contemporary art gallery. You can take part in a programme of authentic and privileged activities led by island residents for a true immersion with the local population. Your meals will be served in the hotel's ocean-facing restaurant where you might spot whales depending on the season. The chef uses seasonal and organic produce, coming directly from the Fogo Island agricultural cooperative.

Throughout the seasons, the island's inhabitants share their way of life and cuisine with guests. During the winter, you will traverse the trails on skis or snowshoes alongside a local resident, you can try your hand at cod-smoking techniques, or you will take a drawing lesson with a local artist.

The inn is committed to implementing recycling and composting schemes and to using rainwater harvesting systems. It is a real asset to the community, and 100 % of its operating surplus is reinvested in the community to ensure a sustainable and resilient future for Fogo Island.
