    Alphonse Island, petite paradise island of the eponymous atoll is located 400 km south-west of Mahé, reachable only 2 to 3 times a week by a 1-hour flight. Situated 7° south of the equator, it enjoys one of the healthiest climates in the world and kilometres of pristine shores, lagoons and marine flats. On the island, some 300 inhabitants and a single hotel with stunning tropical charm offering 22 bungalows, 5 villas and two four-bedroom retreats, all right on the sand facing the’Indian Ocean.     THE EXTRAORDINARY

    The geographical isolation of Alphonse Island creates an atmosphere of peaceful solitude where guests forget the outside world and can immerse themselves in all the natural wonders and unique experiences that the island has to offer. Notably, it is a unique nesting haven for green and hawksbill turtles. The team of biologists will explain the life cycle of these marine animals, from nesting to hatching, highlighting that these turtles are able to find the very beach of their first day to come and lay their own eggs in turn.  

    ETHICS

    Conservation is a primary subject on Alphonse, and the hotel is committed to protecting the region's unique flora and fauna through continuous research, rehabilitation and monitoring programmes, with a particular focus on nesting for marine and giant tortoises, the protection of sensitive marine habitats and forest rehabilitation. The Island Conservation Society (ICS) team offers activities on the island such as turtle patrols, beach cleans, observing and feeding giant tortoises and birdwatching, which guests are encouraged to join.
