Princesse Bora, Spa & Whales

On the east coast of Madagascar, on the unspoiled island of Sainte-Marie, lies a charming eco-friendly lodge: Princesse Bora Lodge & Spa. Set within a vast coconut grove on the edge of the lagoon, its 20 villas blend luxury with authenticity. Among other things, the lodge specialises in whale-watching excursions to see humpback whales from July to September. Located on the historical Spice Route and once a renowned pirate stronghold, the island of Sainte-Marie is the ultimate treasure island, featuring tropical forests, mangroves, white sandy beaches and a turquoise lagoon. The immense coconut grove that shelters the lodge is reached by zebu cart, setting an authentic tone from the start. Built using local and noble materials—rosewood, cut stone and traveller's palm leaf roofs—its 20 luxurious villas have been constructed in accordance with local traditions. The Jungle Spa offers vitality and wellness through treatments using homemade products. The lodge serves as the starting point for numerous water and land excursions, including scuba diving and mountain biking. Some activities are seasonal, such as lobster fishing and vanilla harvesting. The most memorable spectacle of all remains the migration of the humpback whales.
