SEE LIFE THROUGH ROSE-COLOURED GLASSES

Nestled on the Alentejo coast, in the peaceful and authentic village of Melides, Vermelho offers a gentle way of life where respect for tradition reigns. Here, the essence of the daring Christian Louboutin shines through in every corner. Having succeeded in capturing the unique soul of Melides, he pays a true tribute to creativity in all its forms through the works of art, furniture, fabrics, frescoes and play of colours that adorn Vermelho. The property houses 13 charming bedrooms overlooking the gardens, where some of the carefully selected furniture comes from the designer's personal collection. Alentejo ceramic tiles, hand-painted frescoes, ornate wardrobes and remarkable pieces of art give each bedroom its own distinct character. The magic of Vermelho’s interiors echoes the hotel’s sublime façade, hand-sculpted by the Italian artist Giuseppe Ducrot. The property’s gardens also overflow with imagination, inviting peaceful relaxation alongside the heated natural swimming pool, the relaxation area and the scented vegetation. Amidst a rich art collection, you will find the Indian lounge: an exclusive space that will transport you from Melides to the other side of the world. At the Xtian restaurant, recipes are passed down from generation to generation and preserve Portuguese expertise, with the delicious produce of the Alentejo enhanced by local artisanal tableware. Let us not forget Vermelho’s wellness cocoon, a bespoke treatment space designed for deep reconnection with oneself, thanks in particular to high-end cosmetics by Anne Sémonin.

You will have the opportunity to admire unique pieces such as the sculptures by Giuseppe Ducrot, the frescoes by Greek artist Konstantin Kakanias, the Grenadian woodwork by Los Tres Juanes, the bespoke metalwork by Villareal, and the masterful blown glass of Indian studio Klove… The designer drew his inspiration from the cobbled streets of Melides, its charming blue facades, its rustic soils and its welcoming gentleness.

ETHICS

Respecting traditions is the watchword at Vermelho. The restaurant's gastronomy is based on local produce coming largely from Melides. The hotel intimately celebrates Portuguese craftsmanship: the azulejos come from the Fábrica de Azeitão and numerous pieces of handicraft are handmade by local creators. For foreign creations, Christian Louboutin has ensured the support of artisans committed to design and sustainable materials. Lastly, Vermelho features only about ten rooms to form part of a human-scale tourism.
