Nihi Sumba

Nihi, surf attitude

Nihi Sumba is an eco-friendly paradise retreat nestled between the sea and tropical vegetation on the island of Sumba, east of Bali. It is a dream destination for the happy few in search of tranquillity and authenticity. 2.5 kilometres of private beaches unfold before your eyes, framing 24 villas with one to five bedrooms, depending on your desires... Nihi Sumba (formerly Nihiwatu) is a tropical retreat prized by connoisseurs. Getting there requires some effort: a one-hour flight from Bali followed by a one-and-a-half-hour car transfer to reach the south-west coast and discover the striking beauty of a 227-hectare estate of untouched nature. To enjoy it, there are 24 villas with one to five bedrooms for couples, large families or groups of friends. Each villa is an ode to local traditions: pointed thatched roofs, local stone, bamboo, reclaimed wood, finely woven ikats... all opening onto lush nature, away from prying eyes. You will be surprised by the variety of land and marine activities on offer, including popular surf spots, and you will certainly enjoy the benefits of the spa and yoga pavilion.

THE EXTRAORDINARY

Nihi Sumba is home to one of the world's most coveted waves, known as "God's Left", or often "Occy's Left". The wave is popular due to its unpredictable nature, being sensitive to different conditions: tides, size, strength, and direction. Catching a good wave is not as easy as it seems, but once you make the right choice, the reward is a 200m to 300m long ride. The surf session must be booked in advance and is limited to 10 surfers per day.

ETHICS

Nihi Sumba is heavily involved in sustainable tourism, committing through its foundation to the eradication of malaria, access to drinking water, the creation of clinics and schools, as well as implementing a strict policy for the management of water, energy (use of LEDs), the use of local materials, biofuel, vegetables from an organic kitchen garden, and free-range poultry...
