    Clouds, the chain of volcanoes before your eyes

    Clouds is made up of 8 elegant mountain stone cottages overlooking the impenetrable Bwindi Forest, on the borders of Uganda, Rwanda and the Congo. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is the dream starting point for observing silverback gorillas. Bwindi National Park extends across the south-west of Uganda, a protected area of around 330 km², home to a very rich biodiversity merging into an impenetrable jungle. More than 300 species of birds, 200 of butterflies, 150 of trees, 120 of mammals, 100 of ferns, and 25 of frogs bring the mountains and plains to life, but the park has above all forged its reputation on the protection of mountain gorillas, numbering around 350 today, or half of the world's population of this threatened species. The 8 volcanic stone cottages of Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge form an elegant retreat offering fabulous views of the Virunga National Park in Rwanda and sometimes even as far as the Nyiragongo volcano in the Congo. Clouds is the ideal base for trekking on the trail of the mountain gorillas and taking guided walks in the Bwindi Forest.

    THE EXTRAORDINARY

    Bwindi National Park is a unique sanctuary in the world for observing two species of primates: chimpanzees and mountain gorillas. A peaceful animal, gorillas are very sociable and live in family groups under the protection of the strongest male, known as a «silverback». Rest assured, they feed exclusively on plants.

    ETHICS

    Clouds was designed jointly by the African Wildlife Foundation and the lodge owners to help protect the gorillas and genuinely involve the local Nkuringo communities in sustainable and responsible tourism. On the agenda are jobs, education, social action projects and shared benefits.
