After a thousand years of history, this fortified castle, situated in the heart of the Umbrian countryside, was transformed in 2021 into a magnificent hotel, the Castello di Reschio. Amidst lush hills and verdant valleys, there are also eight former farmhouses, renovated into private homes, scattered across the unspoilt countryside of Reschio. Here, everything has been designed with nature in mind, always following the contours of the land and using native plants to create outdoor spaces that can be enjoyed all year round. With its shaded olive groves, flower-filled meadows and elegant cypress-lined avenues, the 1,500-hectare estate invites guests to relax and reflect. The 36 rooms and suites situated within the walls of the ancient castle are imbued with personality and panache, thanks to an organic approach to contemporary design, where the past blends with the present in the most natural of ways. Ancient frescoes adorn the ceilings, the walls are clad in delicate tapestries and the furniture reflects the Italian craftsmanship of yesteryear. In the castle’s ancient vaulted wine cellars, the Bathhouse is an otherworldly retreat featuring a Roman saltwater bath, a hammam, a sauna and a treatment room, where precious, innovative beauty rituals celebrate nature’s healing powers. Reschio is also home to some of Italy’s most experienced dressage horses. Guests can visit the equestrian centre to take lessons, set off on outdoor rides, or admire these magnificent creatures during evening shows.
