    Nkwichi, a secret hideaway

    Nkwichi Lodge is an idyllic eco-lodge comprising 6 chalets and 2 thatched houses. Set away from the world on the eastern shore of Lake Malawi, on the Mozambican side, it feels like the Indian Ocean yet you are right in the heart of Africa within the Manda Reserve, spanning 600 km² of species protection in close collaboration with local communities. Lake Malawi is a vast lake bordered by lush forests, home to idyllic coves and a few rare exceptional lodges, including Nkwichi Lodge on the eastern shore. Nestled in a splendid private bay with white sand and granite rocks, the lodge is only accessible by boat from Likoma Island. Once ashore, it is hard to make out the 8 superb wooden structures which blend in perfectly with the vegetation. The rooms, decorated in a pure ethnic style, look out over the magic of Lake Malawi, also known as Lake Niassa. A wide range of activities is on offer: guided trekking, dhow expeditions on the lake, kayaking, snorkelling, paddleboarding, and just taking it easy! Meeting the local communities is also a highlight of the lodge, which is resolutely committed to sustainable and responsible tourism through a very active foundation.

    THE EXTRAORDINARY

    Each chalet has been individually decorated in an ethnic chic style, incorporating or repurposing natural elements from the reserve: local thatch roofs, frames and furniture made from indigenous woods, lake stones, and showers and baths that follow the curve of the granite rocks and the line of the branches…

    Nkwichi Lodge develops a comprehensive ethical approach: respect for the environment, waste reprocessing, use of renewable energy, employment of local communities, sourcing from local farmers, conservation of animal and plant species, construction of schools, granaries, wells... The lodge is also a partner of the "Pack for a Purpose" association.
