Amanjena

Peaceful paradise

Amanjena is the Aman group’s first resort in Africa. Literally, its name means peaceful paradise, and everything conspires to evoke that feeling: its location away from the vibrant medina, the coolness of its palm and olive groves, its structure designed around a sublime sheet of water, the nearby Atlas Mountains, and the exceptional interior design of its living spaces. The entrance to paradise is a large double-leaf oak door surrounded by softly trickling fountains. Then a sumptuous central pool is revealed, reflecting the pink pisé traditional Arab pavilions, against a backdrop of azure blue sky and slender green palm trees. The pavilions offer large king-size beds beneath Venetian domes, warmed by tawny Berber rugs and elegantly styled furniture. The bathrooms are finished in almond green marble. Water is omnipresent, setting the rhythm for all the living spaces. As for activities, tailor-made excursions are organised, including hikes in the Atlas Mountains, mountain biking trips, visits to the medina, and meetings with craftspeople. You can make the most of all the resort's facilities: the library, boutique, spa, tennis courts, 33-metre swimming pool and the two delicious restaurants serving Mediterranean and Thai specialities.

THE EXTRAORDINARY

Ten minutes from the medina, the architect Ed Tuttle designed a sort of small palace in the centre of the Almekis golf course, reminiscent of the Menara pavilion. Borrowing its colour from the city's ramparts, the architecture is a contemporary and sleek interpretation of more traditional Moroccan style. Dazzling...

ETHICS

Aman Group has made the equation "ecofriendly" = "beautiful" a reality. All their resorts have been designed with a rigorous aesthetic, in the architectural style of their host country, while preserving the natural setting in which they are located as much as possible. This is a true feat, bordering on perfection. Another major strength is that the resorts respect the "small is beautiful" philosophy, rarely offering a capacity of more than 40 rooms.
