Marataba, a truly stunning private concession

There is a mystical place at the foot of the Waterberg mountains bearing the name Marataba, «where the plains touch the mountains». A condensed version of Africa's finest offerings, Marataba is a 15-suite luxury lodge, a clever blend of contemporary and traditional styles giving the sensation of becoming at one with the elements. Marataba has established itself at the heart of a sublime 23,000-hectare private concession within the Marakele National Park in the Limpopo province. The lodge faces a grandiose landscape of vast plains, thick bush, rushing rivers, sheer gorges and monumental mountains, a true natural sanctuary for the «Big Five». It is also a malaria-free region that is home to the rare sable and roan antelopes, and the largest colony of Cape vultures in the world. 15 elegant suites blend discreetly into the verdant bush, playing with khaki and ochre hues. They proudly feature a subtle mix of materials (tent canvas, wood and stone) while giving pride of place to an uncluttered space bathed in light. Lastly, a magnificent swimming pool with sun loungers has been designed for recovery after bustling 4x4 or walking safaris. The Mountain Lodge, about fifteen kilometres away, offers a more intimate retreat with 5 suites suspended on the mountainside.
