    Gorah Elephant Camp, 1920s safari

    Originally, Gorah is a 14,000-hectare private concession in the heart of Addo National Park in a malaria-free region. Created in 1931 to safeguard the last surviving elephants of the Eastern Cape region, it is now the area with the highest density of elephants in the world. Gorah Elephant Camp is centred around a historic monument dating from 1856, The Gorah House. Fully restored to reflect the glory and elegance of the past, the manor house is the nerve centre of the camp, featuring nostalgic colonial furnishings, comfortable lounges, a cosy fireplace and a sumptuous veranda facing a waterhole. 4x4 safaris or guided walking safaris are offered before you retreat to one of the 11 magnificent tents with their sweet colonial scent or by the delightful natural rock pool.
